Wow, beautiful ("stellar?") shots of the Stellar's Jay, Cynthia! I've only had a chance to see this jay once, and still regret that I didn't get any decent photos of it. You did well here.

Stellar!!!
I love watching these guys in my yard but they will come peck on my window if the peanut tray is empty!

Great photos! Your Stellar's Jays look a little different than ours, with the white markings.

Great pictures of the Jay. I am not good at photographing birds! Did you see the cute sparrow clothes pins on my blog this wk? Perfect for all your birders!

Beautiful photos of a beautiful bird. I'm not very familiar with this bird; are they only found on the west coast of North America?

Love your photo-blog!

what kind of Stellar's Jay is that?

I don't see the white spots on the NW variety.

Beautiful photos. See artist John Pitcher's Stellar's Jay on Climate Impacts of NW poster @ my site Good Nature Publishing http://www.goodnaturepublishing.com/Climateimpacts.htm

Thank you ALL very much for your kind comments. I am a beginning birder but believe this is an "Adult Interior West" (white marks on forehead)and looks like its furthest range East would be Co. & NM.

I have good memories of the Steller's (looked up the spelling) Jay from staying at my children's home at Lake Tahoe Nevada. While the bird wasn't popular with the kids who mostly worked late at night only to be awakened very early by the jay, I enjoyed seeing such a pretty bird that was new and unfamiliar to me.
