White-winged Scoter in flight - Willow Lake - Prescott, Az.

Every Thursday I always look forward to read birder Eric Moore's (also owner of Jays's Bird Barn here in Prescott) articles in the Daily Courier.Eric's last post indicted there have been sightings of a White-winged Scoter hanging out at Willow Lake, which equates to 'extremely rare' in these parts. So I headed out to Willow Lake with low hopes of actually spotting this bird.I went to the location of the sightings and sure enough, there he was! The range map suggests this Scoter is a bit off course and is wintering in Prescott, Az. instead of California or Mexico. So very happy and lucky to get these photos and of course Eric's valuable information :)

Nice sighting! I just saw my first scoters...three species actually...in the last couple of months here in Utah where they are also seen annually, but still exciting.
Wonderful bird, now I think I will have to head to the shore this weekend
Cynthia, how terrific that you saw this rare bird in your area. I have never seen one before. Fantastic!
Wow! that is quite a treat!
I'm so glad you caught sight and photo of the scoter. Congratulations.

I was up in Prescott over the weekend Jan 19th through 22nd and went up to Willow lake to photgraph the migratory waterfowl. I'm home now reviewing my shots and low and behold, white wing scoters, one male and one female, are in several of my shots. I thought I only managed to shoot one or two of them in flight. I'm elated to know I got to witness a rare visit from these two.
Thank you for your nice comments! So glad to view this rare event:)
