Red-napped Sapsucker-Wed.Wings

This photo was taken in the early sunlight (Prescott Nat'l Forest) so pardon the light/dark exposure.  The Red-napped Sapsucker is a wintering bird for our area and I wanted to photo him before he leaves. His belly matches the wood of the trees for great camouflage and is sometimes hard to see except for the beautiful deep red markings on top of head and neck.

What a terrific bird! I like the way you caught him from different angles, too.

Another bird I've never seen or heard of! Great shot showing that red nap!

The Sapsuckers are marvelous birds. They've got that intricate and nicely camouflaged plumage, something to appreciate in its own right, and then the flashes of dark red add the pizazz, as if the Woodpecker couldn't quite commit to a life of inconspicuousness.
Your photos are very nice, showing the bird up in its element.
Thanks for sharing
