Old & New Birds-Wed. Wings

I believe this is a male (first year) House Finch, although I had to scramble for the Stokes Field guide to help with identification as this is the first yellow one I have ever seen.

Brown-headed and Bronzed Cowbirds are common to our area but here again this is a new bird for me. He was not Mr. Popularity at the feeder as the other birds would not tolerate him and succeeded in running him off.

I love the Yellow Finches. I think that means it's a first year male, and they get steadily more red as they get older. Maybe he just likes yellow food.

I appreciate the Cowbird photo too. Cowbirds aren't considered desirable by many folks, but I too see them infrequently and enjoy when they appear.

Thanks for posting.
