To those of you who have followed me over the past couple of years, you know how I struggle to correctly I.D. Hawks. I "think" this may be an immature Red-tailed Hawk according to size, color, markings, etc. No matter how many books or illustrations I view to help me identify a Hawk, it usually is different from what I think it is! I always appreciate your comments and helpful information :)

Hi there. Boy that is a hard one to call, it does have the body shape and head, but so young its difficult to truly know. I live in Toronto, Canada, and recently, my wife, Jean, and I came upon an adult Red-tailed Hawk in Markham, Ontario. We have read that stalking a hawk is no easy task, that you have to sneak up on them when they are looking the other way. Well, this Hawk was only looking one way when it landed, and that was right at us! Fortunately, we had our camera with us and got some good pictures and video. We have posted them for anyone interested at: http://frametoframe.ca/photo-essay-red-tailed-hawk-sighting-markham-ontario
I wont even venture a guess, but what a beautiful bird & superb pictures!
I'm no expert on raptors of the southwest, but it looks to me like a juvenile Red-tailed Hawk.
